Blankingship & Keith attorney Melissa Little named a 2018 Rising Star by GWAC

Melissa A. Little, an associate in Blankingship & Keith, P.C.’s education law and litigation group, has been named a 2018 “Rising Star” in the law firm sector by the Greater Washington Area Chapter (GWAC) of the Women Lawyers Division of the National Bar Association. Little was one of several attorneys recognized for having distinguished themselves in their careers and having made a mark in the legal community.

Little’s practice focuses on education matters for school divisions across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In 2017, Little was the co-recipient of the Virginia State Bar Young Lawyers Conference Young Lawyer of the Year Award, based on her distinguished record of serving youth, as evidenced by her time working for the Legal Aid Justice Center and representing students with disabilities in school disciplinary hearings and settlement negotiations. She was also recognized for her position as a commissioner with the City of Alexandria’s Children, Youth and Families Collaborative Commission. In that role, Little worked with the City of Alexandria, Alexandria City Public Schools, and related public and private entities to ensure that the city was meeting the needs of its youth and their families.

An active member of the American Bar Association (ABA), Little currently serves on its Youth at Risk Advisory Committee and chaired the Young Lawyers Division Minorities in the Profession Committee. As a result of her service, Little was honored with the “Star of the Quarter Award.”

She graduated from the University of Albany, summa cum laude, and from the University of Akron School of Law. During law school, she served as assistant editor of the Akron Law Review and received the Akron Law Outstanding Women Award.
